As you, my only reader will know, I have just returned from a reasonably lengthy Easter holiday, and was feeling somewhat refreshed and raring to go.

Ah, what a difference a day at work makes.

The eye lids are leaden, the yawns frequent and the office temperature pitched at a suitably soporific level. In short, I could sleep for a fortnight.

Still, as a way of staying awake, I have decided to review the latest GFT catalogue (GFT is a UK prog rock mail-order establishment based in Tolworth) which includes a large number of suitably obscure bands from around the world. I already have some Venezuelan prog. Now, I feel, is the time to sample Hungarian, Estonian and Bolivian prog - and maybe a little symphonic Italian stuff.

The catalogue suggests comparisons so that even if you are buying blind (as I often am), you know that it will be similar in style to certain other bands. And I have only rarely been disappointed.

Oh, and I don't know where this band is from, but I have to buy one of their albums simply to reward them for their band's name:

Karma Kanics.

I've bought stuff on the basis of an interesting band name before. And to date only Daisy Chainsaw have fully disappointed, though Toad The Wet Sprocket were disappointingly mainstream.

Well, we'll see. And you, my only reader will be amongst the first to find out.

Whether you want to or not.

There's a band called Little Vinyl Dinosaurs?

Unless, Miss Emm, you is taking the mickey, I must have an album by them.

There was. I was in it. Sadly now defunct, and renamed Screaming Mud before it went...

A moment's silence.

Now stop it.

These are all band names that would grace my CD collection if only they had recorded. How can anyone pass up band names like that?

Mind you, I have heard Shonen Knife, and despite meeting the odd name, criterion, they are just too awful to include...

I've seen Shonen Knife. They were, well, short.

Not really - they were the headline act. They were short as in little-Japanese-person short.

I'm pretty sure I saw a band called Daisy Chainsaw once. Can't remember any more than that. Probably not even the same one...
