I had forgotten just how much work goes into the preparation of a new table-top RPG campaign. And that's just character generation.

It was my intention to provide players with easy to use hand outs detailing the basics of character generation, and giving the positives and negatives for each archetype. The players could then refer to the Players' Handbook for greater detail.

I have prepared a blank character sheet for each player, and typed up several pages of the bare-bones character generation information. I need to do several more pages, and have no time to do so. In the last week, I have been in for one evening. It isn't enough time, and we start tomorrow.

On the plus side, part of tomorrow night's gaming session will be taken up with tidying up and finishing the latest phase of the current campaign, after which we create Dark Continent characters, and outfit the expedition. Then I shall outline the purpose of the expedition and hopefully we will have just enough playing time to get the expedition to its first overnight camp on the continent itself.

Then I have a week to polish the adventure properly.

I haven't GM'ed for over fifteen years, as far as I can recall. Happily, the Thursday night crew are a forgiving lot.

Don't forget the cases of champagne old bean.

My "Dark continent" has been in the cupboard since we purchased them from the Agreeable Salesgirl. Do tell me if you'd like to borrow the players stuff from it.

Ah, that's for the players to decide, not me. Is the encumbrance of a case of bubbly worth the expense of a couple more wangwana bearers?

I'm not sure that I'll need the players stuff, but thanks for the offer. Once we've created the characters the players will not bneed to refer to the book so often, so one copy should be enough.

By the way, as I recall, "agreeable salesgirl" as you have it, was Carol, aka [livejournal.com profile] anubisgrrl.

Who appears not to have said anything for a year and a half, almost. I hope the young lady is alright.

I believe so, happily married and hiding in New Mexico. [livejournal.com profile] caffeine_fairy would be the one to ask.

I've had the game since it came out, but this is the first opportunity I've had in several years to run anything, let alone Dark Coninent.

I am toying with the idea of keeping a sub-journal detailing the expedition's progress, and then asking readers to act like they were reports in the Times, so as to distribute Renown amongst the players.

Fine idea.

I'm currently using a sub-journal for a Delta Green game, as much as a way of putting my notes from each session into some sort of definitive order before the next session.
