Vexation

As you, my only reader will know, I occasionally get vexed about the most pointless of things.

This evening, I have been trying on-and-off, to work out precisely when Hai-eatie (Haiti) transmogrified into Hate-ee.

I'd also like to know when railway stations became train stations.

Is someone doing something rum and uncertain to my only language?

I would guess the former would be at some point where the Americans got involved in Haiti. It has the feel of an americanisation, rather than a correction to local pronounciation (c.f. Beijing).

The latter annoys me. I would place it at the time when Railtrack replaced British Rail as the "custodian" of the stations. I suspect it was part of the rebranding that went on then.
