November 14th and it's the first frost of the winter here in North London. The first scraper of the year normally crops up toward the end of October; what odds that cold winter we were forecast?

Even that's a disappointing forecast mind. The boards for the Express & Star were trumpeting the coldest winter for years forecast a few weeks back. It turns out the met office have been saying that there is a 65% chance of the winter being very cold.

Hmm... that'll be 50/50 then, seasonally adjusted. It might be chilly, it might not. Great forecast.

The met office hav also pointed out that when they talk of a harsh winter they mean harsh in terms of recent times. It could end up being positively arctic but it equally could just be cold in the sense that Winetr should be rather than the horrible mild monstrosities we've had over the last decade.

Bastards. My November has been stuck in the high 70s and low 80s. It's very odd - on the one hand it just bain't right to be so warm at this time of year (and yes, *they* keep assuring me it's unseasonable; we all know I don't believe them anymore); on the other, I can't deny it's nice to be able to sit outside in a t-shirt, in sunshine which can only be described as the Texas version of balmy.

It's nice to know this place can sing tunes other than Bloody Hot. It's supposedly going to get a lot colder tomorrow, as Canada once again tries to export her air. We shall see.

Happy scraping.

My sympathy is limited by the observation that you chose to live in parts furrin, and hot bits at that.

This furrin part is not too bad, either. I'm not looking forward to mountain snow though, especially shovelling the stuff, and driving in it. Nor power cuts. Nor rock slides.

Rassen frassen sassen frassen winter weather...

Ahahahahah snow shovelling... one thing I *don't* miss from Connecticut, though the snow itself was yummy as long as you didn't have to walk through 3-foot high drifts of it just to get to the car.

There's got to be somewhere in this huge-ass country that has perfect weather, neither too hot nor too cold, not humid, mountains nearby and hell, might as well have a coast too.

There is, of course. Sadly, it's called California.

Nope, I have noticed, after 15 yrs of living here, that nowhere in America is safe. Pick your state: earthquakes in California (not to mention gangs), and elsewhere you have floods, tornadoes, waterless desert, humid summers, freezing winters, New York City, dangerous animals (but then I already mentioned gangs didn't I), hurricanes, you name it, we have it.

Having said that, it's still the best place in the world to live, IMO. When people ask me "Why would an Englishman live in Southern California?", I hold up a burrito.

You live in SoCal? I'll have to file that away for future reference. There's a games company in San Diego I might want to get a job with someday. :D

Then I hope they pay you a lot of $$$. Expensive place to live.
