I just got my P60 for the financial year 2002-2003.

I officially now pay more in tax than my annual pay was for 1982-1983, the first year I had a full time job after graduating.

It's taken me exactly 20 years. I rather think it should have taken a much smaller period to achieve.

I know things move on, but I never seemed to need a great deal of money in my student days, and although I came out of it owing money, it didn't seem half as onerous as it does now.

Still, I'd advise trying to get to the position of paying your opening annual salary in tax a few years before the 20 roll round!

I think I'd try a bit harder if I could go back even 10 years.

Well. Maybe. ;-)
