RIP Tony Meehan

Since he will pass largely unnoticed, the Shadows having been un-newsworthy for some time now (despite only hanging up their guitars about 18 months ago), I thought that I would just mention that drummer Tony Meehan, founder member of the Shadows has died.

Edit: Well, the Beeb took notice around lunchtime.

Well bloody hell. I liked the Shadows when I was a wee lad, and have been pleased to notice, in guitar mags, that Jeff Beck, one of the most expressive guitarists around, and the sublime Peter Green, the best white blues guitarist ever, were profoundly influenced by the great Hank B Marvin (an alias if ever there was one). What a shame that the Shadows' music was waffle for the last 35 yrs.
