I have spent today walking on eggshells. I have tried desperately not to do anything that might invite retribution from the karma pixies. They like balance, you see; it's a yin-yang sort of thing. Whenever something good happens there must be an equivalent restorative downside elsewhere.

So I have spent the day trying my absolute best to ensure that any karmic-balance restoring does not come my way, because if it does it will be a bloody corker to make up for the positive swing my life has taken. I have a theory (untested) that if I can maintain the world as it is right now for long enough, that THIS will become the default setting, and the balance will always re-set to this.

So, to placate the karma pixies, I have a plan. For the next few days I shall spend an appropriate part of each day patting rabid old ladies on the head, and helping dogs to cross the road.

Some time not too far distant, I intend to hit the town. I hope it doesn't hit back.

If you run out of rabid old ladies to pat on the head, you know where I am :)
Let's suppose your theory is correct; perhaps you have already earned all the good karma and this is your payback from the pixies.
Just keep on enjoying it mate!

I intend to, thanks. ;-)

Which reminds me, I still owe you a) a wander around the surreal west end (or similar) and b) that picture of Katie Bush.

The chap in the street with ropes and stuff, who is arranging for a piano to drop as you walk to the tube, isn't me.

You wouldn't mind riding stotgun for me, would you, Old Boy?

Other than possibly as the name for a band, 'Flying Piano' is to be discouraged.

I don't know what a stotgun is, but it sounds like it would bring down a Luftwaffe bomber without too much difficulty.

It's hard to describe, but is weasely used.

I'm glad you asked...

Some may think that this was a simple typo, the use of the word, "stotgun". Not so.

A stotgun is a device for shooting sticky buns at people, developed for vaudevillains' crowd-control gags in Geordie Music Halls around 1889.

The idea was later picked up in the old Hollywood silents by the Keystone Kops (qv), and led directly to the concept of the sticky-bun fight and thence to the pie in the face gag.

Perhaps this is balancing in your favour after several years of enduring the frustrations of the Northern Line?

A good theory. I mean, the number of people you *haven't* killed must run into the thousands by now.

The karma pixies can't touch you now that you own the 'laughing Buddha' talisman.

Continue to rub his belly for good luck and prosperity.

And watch for Nepalese Ninjas seeking to ensure it's return.....

But isn't that like trying to play sod's law?
Ie lighting a cigarette to summon a bus - it doesn't happen.

Equally, you'll be doing good deeds for your own benefit - that's selfish and likely to cause a karmic backlash.

Then again, Karma Pixies?

...it's not the Karma Pixies that give one trouble, it's the Happy Harpies in truth who do so much to take your attention that that you trip on obvious things. Of course the upside is that Happy Harpies seem to protect you from minor pain events as well, so it won't hurt when you trip on the obvious paving flag that everyone else noticed, but it won't be the Karma Pixies' fault - they've definitely decided that you've got enough in the bank, after all, only they can unleash the Happy Harpies.

*wink*

Glad to see you so beset mon ami :-)
