A cold shower before bed; how better to wind up the day and prepare for a good night's sleep?

The Athenaeum Club's boiler is having one of its periodic grumps and I cannot get it do do anything more than waste gas. I suspect that the wind that brought down the tree bough yesterday has also done for the pilot light on the boiler. Normally this wouldn't be a problem: hit the reset button and the whole thing ignores the pre-programmed cycle and relights. There is that reassuring tik-tik-tik of the sparker sparking, followed by the whoof of igniting gas.

Not tonight, me hearties. Oh, no. Just the sound of gas venting outside. Bloody marvellous. That'll be a day off work then awaiting the plumber and only cold showers in the meantime.

The good news of course, is that the old ticker didn't give out when I was hit by the cold spray. I had serious doubts, but it seems that there is life in the old dog yet. Thank God this didn't happen in the winter. Now that would have been fun.

Oh well, brush teeth and to bed, I guess. And I hope that Miss Furtle has warmed up after her run in with a cold shower. A cold shower is one thing; deep frozen duvet quite another.

I have left a note on the table. I can only hope that both [livejournal.com profile] colonel_maxim and [livejournal.com profile] smokingboot, who is guesting with us, read it when they return from their respective appointments. If I am awoken by cries of horror, I shall have my answer.

I suspect that if you had been outside a few hours ago, that the water would have been (a) more plentiful and (b) warmer.

Less shower gel, though.

Sadly there were no screams to record. There were signs of feeble attempts to get the boiler working this morning, though.

Going to have to get that plumber out.
