I can't quite follow Amazon's delivery or postal charging policy and their delivery/dispatch estimates seem to be gleaned largely through reading entrails.

Thus it is that I am still waiting for my copy of Louise Brooks: Lulu Forever, the new biography by Peter Cowie. Even the cover seems not to be settled, though this seems to be the favourite:

Lulu Forever

In the meantime the companion book, Jazz Age Beauties by Robert Hudovernik, which was supposed to be harder to get hold of arrived on Saturday morning.

Jazz Age Beauties

For once Amazon have at least not charged additional postage for splitting up the order. I am perplexed that the forecast delivery date for Lulu Forever is still 10 October...

I ordered a book as a burpdy pressie for a friend in july - they have only just got round to telling me that they can't get it. At the time I ordered it they had it stock. Grr.

It's obviously your fault, Bwy, for having such minority tastes. Will you just fall into line, and buy something less demanding, like a Christina Aguilera CD? No? Good lad.

Ouch! Point taken, old chap. My most profligatious apologies.

Having said that, I watched a TV prog several months ago in which she sang some old standard or other with piano accompaniment, and gobsmacked me with how well she did it ("Over The Rainbow" or "My Funny Valentine" or something of that ilk). So it seems she actually does have one heck of a voice on her, great pitch, etc, as opposed to such hacks as Jessica Simpson. Mind you, you still wouldn't want to buy one of her negligible CDs, would you.

I know what you mean - she's been on a couple of TV ads over here (a while back now) where she took the mickey out of her own image quite gleefully. I quite warmed to her for that, but not enough to buy any of her Bip-bop music or whatever it's called.

I think she's popular enough to be able to do that, and hopefully she's also secure enough in her own musical abilities to do it. But yeah, if the plastic piffle she perpetrates is considered the work of A Serious Artist, heaven help us all.

Well she does have (or had - I haven't seen Roz for a few months, now) that bob hairstyle.
