At the Theatre

“Underneath the Lintel” is highly recommended. Richard Schiff is excellent as the obsessed librarian (I’m not sure about his “Dutch” accent, but there you go) and the 90 minute performance fairly rips along. The play is a mix of pathos and humour, Schiff switching effortlessly between the two regularly as the story unfolds.

There’s very little I can say without giving the story away; you should go and see it.

But have a meal first and don’t buy drinks in the theatre bar: £10.20 for a Grolsch and a glass of white wine.

When Jane and I went to see The Producers at Drury Lane, I bought 2 large G&Ts. It was not short of £20. I was so shocked I just handed over the money and wobbled away shakily.

You will enjoy it, I think.

Pity Furtle is working until around 6.30 or we'd have met you for BEER before hand.

The usurious price of everything over there (though theatres here overcharge for drinkies and snackies too), and the pathetic performance of the dollar against the quid, fills me with dread.

Sounds interesting, and I really should pretend to be more cultured.

Richard Schiff rings a bell though - where have I heard the name before?

As for the cost of drinks - that's scary.
How much were the tickets?

He was Toby in West Wing.

I'll have to check with Miss Furtle on ticket prices, but we got them for half price due to the original owner not being able to go!

To be able to see Richard Schiff in anything makes me almost envoius of people who live in the great metrollops but then I look around my scruffy uncultured city and I honestly don't want to live anywhere else. We'll just have to encourage those really good plays and theatre experiences to come out here to the back of beyond - 12 miles from Cardiff afterall - and entertain us. Then we have to persuade the theatre to actually advertise it and then....
