I don’t know why, but I am having great difficulty concentrating this morning. I just want to doze off at the keyboard and sleep. I occasionally feel like this in the afternoon, but never in the morning. I wonder if it has anything to do with the after effects of the cold/cough I’ve recently shaken off.

I think that I shall have to go for a wander down Victoria Street at lunchtime just to blow the cobwebs away. I want to price up a mini hi-fi system anyway. I am getting a little fed up with the CD player on the one I have playing CDs at any speed it feels like for several minutes until it settles down each time I decide to listen to something. It eventually behaves, but I just want something that works first time without all the bloody fuss.

The DVD Player in the living room is beginning to get choosy about the DVDs it plays, too. Most of the time it’s OK but now and again it throws a dickey fit and fails to recognise a DVD. The problem there is that the player I have, though elderly, is region free and finding a suitable replacement could well be a hassle. Not to mention the expense.

I wonder how strong I can make my next cup of coffee?

When I bought a cheapish DVD player from Richer Sounds, they passed me a hand written and then photocopied sheet with instructions of how to make it region free.

I'm not sure I could be bothered to go along to any of their meetings, but I'd dearly love one of those enamel badges...

these are pretty good by all accounts and it's a step between HD DVD and normal DVD as it "upscales" existing DVD images into 1040 in case you get a HDMI enabled telly in the next couple of years. I'm thinking of getting one of these myself before taking the plunge with HD DVD or Bluray

Nice piece of kit, though.

Still, I have to have region-free since I have the first 3 seasons of Stargate and a number of movies in R1 format.

aha, if you look at the alternates - an amazon seller has one listed as Multi Region. come next month it shall be mine, about 60% of my 800 or so dvds are R1 so Multi Region is a no brainer for a movie geek like myself ;)

Good luck on your quest, my good sir :)

Region-free is a non-issue these days. Even the 20 quid DVD player I got from Tescos was region-free or capable of being made so...

I've seen your collection, and while the player is right about some of them, if it won't take Mrs Peel out for a spin anymore then it's certainly time for an upgrade.

Coming from a man who insisted upon buying a copy of Deep Blue Sea, with its intelligent sharks against all sane advice, you comment comes as a bit rich. ;-)

Gosh, that was junk, wasn't it.

How's your copy of Hollow Man?
