I am sure that there is a lot to be said for spending time trying to set up a LAN at home, I just don't know that it is good. Certainly, while Elle's iMac can see my PC, the reverse is not true. It could see it for a while but it wouldn't access any of the folders. Unlike the Mac, which is busily sucking Battlestar Galactica episodes off my hard drive as I type. Happily, since I do all the downloading, it is likely that most file movement would be in that direction anyway, but even so...

Once again it proves that Microsquash aren't as clever as the Lord Bill would have us believe. I guess I'll have another go at making it all work together at some point, but right now I can't be bothered.

Other than the shopping earlier on, pootling with the attempted LAN is about all we have done that could be labeled in any way, shape, or form as productive. After two late nights out on Thursday and Friday after each and both of which we were completely knackered, today has been reserved for chilling. I have caught up on Battlestar Galactica (maintaining a lead over Miss Furtle) and have watched one of my Stargate backlog. I intend to do very little tomorrow, too, though I daresay that putting up the curtains in the computer room will consume some time and reveal an inventive use of English as my DIY skills are sorely tested. I have a new drill to play with as well, so the possibilities for domestic carnage are virtually limitless.

I shall apply my hammer to a hook in the bedroom, too; I have decided where to hang the picture of HMS Warspite. What price a bruised thumb, anyone?

So it's not just that the Microsoft stuff is denying the existence of Apple in a close-eyes-fingers-in-ears-la-la-la way then?

Or did they buy them in the end?

Just remember the golden rules of DIY - electrical wiring runs up the wall from your switches or down the wall from a plug and down the wall from a water fawcet. That way you're 95% ok at not hitting a pipe...!

At the risk of being dreadfully predictable:

But as we know I am not overly confident at doing the Microsquash thing after all these years, so LINUX no matter how clever, is hardly likely to be much help to me!

Well, that's rather the point of Ubuntu - it's the "Linux for Human Beings" distro, and the idea is that you don't need to be hugely IT litterate to make it work.

But I'd also like to point out that I wasn't really expecting any action on your part - I just couldn't resist the chance for a dig at MS and a quick spot of evangelism.

Still, if windows isn't actually _working_ for you... :D
