A very quick update to make a couple of observations.

I have discovered an entire new swathe of miserable things to pass the time that I do no care for: organising funerals, choosing flowers, trying to hasten the coroner. Add to that sorting through Dad's possessions and keeping an eye on Mum who seems to be holding up reasonably well and the room for happy times seems remarkably narrow at the moment.

Most of the time is OK, but the unexpected encounter with unexceptional items is enough to drop you into a blue funk and you can't brace yourself, because you don't know in advance which item or event will torpedo your day.

The funeral is on Friday, which seems like forever away and all too close at the same time.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say thanks to all of you who have texted, posted and or e-mailed over the past few days. You will understand that I am a little busy right now with only intermittent access to the internet, so I doubt that I shall have the opportunity to reply to everyone individually in the short term at least, but know that I have read and appreciated all comments from my friends.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It _does_ get easier, although I'm not sure that's what you need to hear right now.

I've found a lasagne recipie which uses four different kinds of cheese, and I'll do you a whole one to yourself when you're feeling a bit more sociable.

Oh, I'm so sorry. (I was away from lj all last week until today and hadn't heard.) It's so difficult to cope with all that stuff when the grief is so fresh, but I hope that part will soon be over for you. My thoughts are with you and your family.
