Blimey.

First day in the office after a long weekend, and the first day without my lackey. There are about a gazillion emails that need dealing with and I am beginning to sink without a trace under the avalanche of Ministerial correspondence that’s coming my way since it was decided by those on high that the Central Correspondence Unit wasn’t pulling its weight and could safely be dispensed with.

Yet again I find myself spending all my time trying to defend existing policy and having no time to spend actually developing alternatives. All this and a below-inflation pay offer. No wonder we all scamper waggy-tail into the office each morning with such enthusiastic anticipation.

There was a parcel at home this morning for Furtle and myself. I book for herself and a pamphlet about Louise Brooks for me. Fantastic. I think I know who it’s from; but the signature and my tired eyes failed to mesh, so I’m only 85.36% sure.

Oh well, on with it, I suppose. Only today and tomorrow morning to get through and then I’m off for another week. Hurrah!

so I’m only 85.36% sure You do know that a government study showed that 42.7% of statistics are made up on the spot?

Wednesday feel like Mondays sometimes? This one feels horribly like a Tuesday - and Tuesdays always used to be double maths days.

I still have occasional nightmares about things like double maths. They generally involve me finding out that I am due to go into a vital exam immediately on a subject I either hate or didn't know I was supposed to be studying in the first place!

Happily it is a number of years since that gem last haunted my psyche.
