It's always nice to have a day off in the middle of the week, breaks it up nicely. Of course, today is Furtle's birthday, which provides all the reason necessary. The powers that be have even arranged the appointment of a new Prime Minister for her: a dour, humourless, presbyterian Scotsman who works with money. Judging by the sky, he's brought the Scots weather with him, too. They'll be deep frying battered Mars Bars and Christmas cake in Number 10 tonight.

Furtle has plundered eBay and obtained a copy of Smash Hits Party '88 which is currently playing on her Mac. It's her birthday, so I am grinning and bearing it. But, Oh Dear...

No doubt there will be an entry from herself in due course, outlining the immense levels of tribute she has received.

Popular music at the dawn of the eighties was not bad at all (post-punk and all that), but it pretty quickly became bloody dire, synthetic, overproduced pap. Toward the end of the decade it improved veeerrry slowly (Stevie Ray Vaughan), so Smash Hits Party 88 is - at least theoretically - not as horrific as, for instance, Smash Hits Party 83 might be. Still, it ain't King Crimson though, eh.
