Just as I was beginning to worry that I might have to investigate further measures via the Citizens’ Advice Bureau or similar, I received a phone call this morning from Trevor, the chap designated by our landlord to do the work on our entrance door and plumbing.

I still have no timetable, so I’m not completely happy, but I am comparatively mollified and have grounds to believe that progress is being made even if only at a glacial pace. Apparently he will be contacting me again with details, but he will be bringing along a firm to look at and provide a quote for the door and let me have a timetable for the plumbing work.

I am looking forward to living in a flat that has a secure door and water that works where it is supposed to work without artificial contrivances involving shower heads and cisterns. The Colonel will enjoy being able to take a bath as well, instead of having to use the shower.

Now, if only Furtle’s attempts to sort out the electricity reach fruition…

I don't even live there, and Dr Furtle's gleeful comment just made me shudder. I think it was the "Bzzzzt".

Furtle’s attempts to sort out the electricity reach fruition

Was that fruition or fusion?

Homebrew reactors constructed from the spilled parts of a second-hand telly inserted into a model tardis, connected to a failed boiler and jammed into an overloaded fridge, controlled by a Mac portable cross-wired with an obsolete ipod and fueled with an under-strength bottle of supermarket Merlot do *not* constitute a reliable source of electricity.
