A disappointing if not unexpected result for England in the Rugby World Cup Final. The team was simply overpowered by a superior South African side who deserved their win, though once again we have one of the great "what ifs" with the try that never was.

Never mind; disappointed yes, but not disheartened. The team has come a long way since the 36-0 drubbing by the very same South Africans a month ago, and although we relinquished our hold on the Webb Ellis Cup, we went down with all guns blazing.

[livejournal.com profile] caffeine_fairy, [livejournal.com profile] chomper99 and [livejournal.com profile] mingmerciless came to the Athenaeum Club to watch the game, [livejournal.com profile] caffeine_fairy providing a very tasty lasagne to feed us as we watched our trophy hopes nose-dive. Still, good company, a tasty meal and a certain amount of booze meant that a good night was had despite it all.

A further disappointment for the day was my inability to purchase a new tweed jacket in the West End. There are lies being told somewhere. We are told that Britain is in the grip of an obesity epidemic. Well, where are all the naked fatties, I want to know, because there are no clothes for them to buy. I know; I'm hardly a Slim Jim myself. Damned if I'm paying the frankly usurious prices charged by High & Mighty for the shapeless bags they try to pass off as jackets.

I guess it's online purchasing for me.

I have said to our local M&S manager that they really should start selling clothes for people with real chests and larger bums. This would surely resolve the problems they have with lower sales figures.
Perhaps it's a secret health ministry edict that they don't sell proper clothes for fat people so that they have to slim down or wear that cheap gazebo from B&Q - I look awful in green

Furtle has just found a bloke's outsize clothing website where the sizes START one size smaller than me. Fantastic; a world where I am a size to aspire to!

There is apparently a market for outsize goth clothing, too. The Uncle Festers of the world now have a home!
