The problem with disruptions on the tube is that you don’t know about them until it’s too late. This despite the fact that TFL1 are supposed to send a text to my mobile divvying up the skinny before I get affected; or at least that’s how I understood the service to operate when I signed up for it. I don’t think that I’ve ever received anything from them at all.

I wonder if, because I live in Whetstone, I do not fit the Mayor’s economic profile as a keyworker, so am bottom of the heap when it comes to warnings on travel.

Thus it was that I arrived at the Totteridge and Whetstone station to find it locked with a note telling the world that there was no service between Barnet and Finchley Central because on an ongoing police investigation at Woodside Park. It’s still ongoing now, a couple of hours later. I wonder what vile happening has occurred to cause all the trouble…

Anyway, back up the hill to catch the 263 down to East Finchley and I eventually roll into work around 10.30.

I mention all this simply so that I can display my new commuter icon.

[livejournal.com profile] fencingsculptor apparently found the gif while mooching around on www.arrse.co.uk

I had to shrink it, reduce the quality and remiove about one frame in four before I could get the file below 40kb so we could use it as an icon.

...it all depends on what I need to be amenable to...

Well I can try, but it depends on the source material.

Would this include taking from a dvd?

Well you would have to do the capture, I think. I have only ever edited existing gifs or animated fades between stills. I ain't anywhere in the league of [livejournal.com profile] mimisoliel

Ah,

in that case, if you don't mind, I may pester you for a couple of sets of stills to be animated.

It's hard to say. You only ever notice at peak periods and are generally too busy trying to plot an alternative route home through the crush.

I exopect it takes several hours; the Tube was largely built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in what would now be considered very narrow tunnels. Access can be difficult, especially when there are thousands of commuters trying to get in and out of the bit that's had to close, and then there's the follow-up disruption up and down the line.

It's the poor drivers I feel sorry for (not something I generally say); they get a ring side seat of suicides or falls. It must be wearing on the nerves.

On the plus side - drivers do (or certainly used to) get plenty of support and care if someone fell under their train.

If it's anything like "real" trains, the [transport] police have to be involved. Each incident is treated as a crime scene before any cleaning up can even begin - to verify it's a suicide / accident and not someone getting pushed presumably ...
