Well, that's that then. A fit result on the night when England were weighed down by their pay packets (notable exception Peter Crouch) and deserved to lose a highly motivated Croatia. Crouch's goal was good; not sure that we deserved the penalty that started off the mini revival. The team's inability to win in earlier games and the need for a helping hand from Israel to make this match meaningful says it all, really. Had England qualified it would have allowed us an exaggerated view of their abilities. Now we know a rebuild and a rethink is needed.

I can't even find it in myself to be bothered. We had a second chance and we threw it away.

Come next summer I shall have to pick someone else to follow. I think I may lay the Curse of the Lea's on Sweden and follow them.

I agree- it wasn't depressing even though it should have been, because they clearly didn't deserve to win! I'm thinking of supporting Croatia- they had a work ethic that England used to have, and overall I was very impressed with them.

I hope you don't mind me stealing your Furtle tonight. I'll give her back afterwards!

Well, just this once, I suppose...

Hopefully she won't be too limp and ragged when you get her back. I can't make any promises, though.
