I find myself vexed by the question why should film makers cast one person and then make that person look like another actor. Why not just cast the person you are looking for?

In particular I am thinking of Beowulf. Now I haven’t seen this movie yet, but I’ve seen posters and stills from it. I have no problem as such with the eponymous hero being played by Ray (you slag) Winstone, but I can’t for the life of me work out why they then decided to make him look like Sean (three rounds a minute in any weather) Bean. Why not just cast old Sharpie and done with?

I realise that the movie characters are all CGI, but they could have just made Beowulf look like a more athletic version of Winstone rather than a misty-eyed Bean.

I now have to ponder whether a Dark Ages Jute would be more likely to sound like an East End thug or a Sheffield thug…

And then disappeared, pretty much. Which is what happens when you move to Kent. Eaten by murlocs is my estimation.
