Damn you, Karma Pixies!
Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 12:47 pmIt’s typical isn’t it?
Last week my boss chided me gently about my timekeeping – I always get in late and leave late to avoid the rush hour at both ends of the day. During January, for one reason or another, I slipped into the pattern of getting in around 10.15am – even on the days when I would otherwise have been in by 10.00, the tube system conspired against me and I was late. By sheer good luck the two never combined, though they easily could have done, and so for a month I got to the office in the ten minute period 10.10 to 10.20.
Anyway, not having a leg to stand on since core hours start at 10am and as it’s frankly not unreasonable to get in by then, I made an effort this morning. I got to Victoria by 09.50, waltzed through Sainsbury’s to buy my milk, newspaper, a sandwich and some bananas and got to my desk on the stroke of ten with an extravagant flourish.
My boss is off sick today, so my efforts have gone unnoticed and the Karma Pixies are laughing hard enough to puke.

Date: 2008-02-05 01:26 pm (UTC)I know I don't have to suffer the inconveniences of the Northern Line or the 'entertainment' of the Creepy Swedish Guy (*), but tucked up in my tin can, realising that I'm running late, (and as I get later the traffic gets heavier and slower), very similar thoughts - that this never happens on the day when the boss is based 'off site' - have crossed my mind far too often.
((*)Who is, btw, providing the inspiration for an NPC who will shortly be appearing in a Delta Green game I'm running for John Shockley and a few others)

Date: 2008-02-05 01:32 pm (UTC)I should just like to assure you that although I get in to the office late, I am generally still there whn most other people are sitting with their feet up watching telly of an evening.
Not tonight though as I have appointment to get me eyes prodded by Dollond and Aitchison...
