Bride of the Son of Building the Doctor
Sunday, March 23rd, 2008 12:44 amAs I said in an earlier post, I am a linear sort of chap, so no work whatsoever has taken place on the Martha figure while I work on the Doctor. On that figure, however, work has continued apace.
I am now at the stage where the glue needs to dry before I add some filler around the coat collar and a couple of seams and then tidy up the base painting before working on fiddly detail such as aging the coat and trainers, deepening the shadows and highlighting the buttons. In due course, there will be a sonic screwdriver, too, but that will have to wait until the figure itself is complete.
Here is a picture of the figure at its current stage of completion posed against the TARDIS I finished a week or so ago. The final position of the figure will be more to the left, with Martha walking around the side, but this gives an idea of how it is developing.

More pictures behind the cut, for those as is interested:

Legs assembled and painted, including pinstripe effect.

Legs and torso attached to rear coat panel.

Main coat assembly completed. Elastic bands hold the assembly together as glue dries. All a little odd without the arms!

Other than the work described above, the Doctor is complete - and giving a rather rude gesture that will make sense once the sonic screwdriver is placed in the hand.

The same, but from a slightly different angle.
Still a fair amount of work to be done, but we're getting there!

Date: 2008-03-24 04:10 pm (UTC)I considered the differing advice given to me by fellow model-makers and decided that the figure was too big simply to get away with suggesting a pin-stripe and far too small and fiddly (for me) to manage the lines of trimmed masking tape. Hand painting individual lines was out of the question and then it hit me: I have water colour pencils. Draw the pin-stripe carefully by hand and then add varnish to fix it!
VoilĂ !
