Amazon

I must say that I was very pleased with Amazon yesterday. Back in January I put in an order for a book and it was finally published in March, my order shipping on 22nd March with a delivery estimate of about 25th.

It didn’t arrive and so I emailed Amazon. They asked me to wait until about 2nd April just in case the Royal Mail were playing their little games. In the event I waited until last Thursday and still having received nothing I contacted Amazon again via email. Their response was simply (and this is only just paraphrased) “Gosh, something does seem to have happened to it hasn’t there?” and they promised to send me a new one.

I received the despatch notice on Friday afternoon and the book arrived yesterday morning, while I was at the dentist (of course, but that’s hardly Amazon’s fault): no fuss or quibbling, they just sent a replacement.

It would be nice to leave them feedback like I would on eBay, but there doesn’t seem to be anywhere on their site to do so. It’s rare enough that a faceless corporation acts positively without hassling its customers that I feel that credit should be given where it’s due.

I had a similar experience with Amazon a few years ago when I bought the collector's box set of one of the LOTR films. The statuette that came with it was broken so I emailed them to ask for a replacement; that was a Friday afternoon and the new one was on my desk waiting for me on Monday morning, along with a polite and apologetic note asking me to send the broken one back (postage paid) when I got the chance. I was very impressed and emailed them to say so.
