Tooth Torture

I am fed up with this. The side of my mouth hurts again because no matter how hard I try, the occasional piece of “hard” food finds its way to the left side of my mouth when I am eating and stabs the bit of gum that’s supposed to be healing. It’s a fortnight ago today since it was perpetrated upon me and I am getting very tired indeed of having to eat everything but the softest food gingerly and with caution.

The gum feels swollen and very tender on the outside – it seems OK on the inside where it meets the palate. It would be just my luck if the dentist left a tiny piece of tooth in there to irritate me forever.

This is why I try never to go to the dentists unless it is in extremis. I am certainly losing what little will I had to spend a fortune having the last piece of work done, especially as the dentist has already said she can’t guarantee the success creation of a new crown, though she is more than willing to poke at the tooth and surrounding gum, torturing me for the privilege of paying enough money for her to send her kids to college.

None of it hurt before I went to the bloody place and I could eat what I wanted, when I wanted and chew it or not with any part of my mouth as I saw fit; now I have a continual low-level battle with anything more solid than wet bread or semolina.

Bah.

I know exactly what you mean. I had my tooth out near the end of February and it was only early April that I could start to eat on that side again. I also went through the "did they leave a bit in" anxiety and even went on antibiotics which did sod all. I hate to say this but I'm afraid it's a case of putting up with it as getting adult teeth out is a much bigger deal than they pretend it is, especially for us blokes. Basically, it's hateful now but it will go away eventually and then you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

Seriously, go to Boots and get some Corsodyl mouth wash - or Boots own equivalent. It is SPECIFICALLY designed to promote post-operative healing.

I had to use it twice a day after having my wisodm teeth out last year.

It really is 'very' good and will help you.
I can't believe your stupid dentist didn't recomend you use it !

Go on.

I was about to say exactly the same thing.

I have a crappy little baby tooth that constantly causes me gum problems and my dentist recommended Corsodyl whilst I was preggers cos it got even worse. Now they do Corsodyl Daily, which I have started using, and it is really good. As I understand it, you should only use the hard stuff for a couple of weeks.

You have my sympathy though. I don't really have any tearing action anymore, which I find pretty depressing. Ocassionally I forget and it hurts like all bloody hell. I tried to take a glove off with my teeth at the last Maelstrom (slackness, rather than sauciness) and nearly did myself a mischief.

YOu did the right thing going, bad teeth and infections therof have been linked to heart conditions, so it is always worth getting the work done. If the crown is for cosmetic purposes and the gap isn't visible i'd prolly skip the extra poking, although it might allow nearby teeth to spread/space out a bit and create gaps. I am a bit paranoid about teeth, us old dogs have to look after our gnashers or else it's death in the snow!:)
