Joy is me.

I have an afternoon of virtually uninterrupted meetings starting at noon, running through lunchtime and ending around 16.00 this afternoon.

I may just have time to scarf back a banana and an apple before I go into the second meeting, but I expect that it is more likely that I shan’t and any input from me will be disturbed by lack of food, coffee and the gurgling of my stomach.

I note that everyone else attending is being paid substantially more than me for working over lunchtime.

I have decided not to try very hard for the remainder of this morning to compensate.

That reminds me of a temp job I had when I first immigrated. Workmen were knocking down an interior office wall, so the place was full of dust, and people complained about inhaling the stuff. Everyone was given the afternoon off: regular employees with pay, temps without. I needed the money, so I had to stay. Bastards. I pushed my work to one side and started writing a little book about the care and feeding of penpals, which took me only a few months. A few people actually bought it.
