Well, who'd a thunk it? I haven't posted since before 5.30am on Saturday. It's not like Your Hero1 to be so quiet, is it?

Saturday went well enough, though I was too busy covering for three teams to really enjoy meeting everybody. Serving up the loot to cover a £49 train fare, a tenner on taxis, a tenner for the venue and a fiver on the worst burger I've eaten since I encountered a lump of greasy beef slopped in mayo about 15 years ago in Antwerp. That still repeats on me from time to time after all these years and I have never quite forgiven the only French-speaking burger bar in the city for being so gastronomically rude to me when I could so easily have eaten in a Flemish establishment. I digress. Job done, I returned to The Carpathia in less time than it took Furtle the night before to get home from [livejournal.com profile] maleghast's do in Reading. Of course, she didn't have to put up with a happily raucous rugby team and a small child with the most expansive and energetic lungs in the western hemisphere.

I got home about 9.20pm, showered and had dinner - a very toothsome confection created by Furtle involving roasted brie and potatoes, garlic chicken and Greek salad, followed by a chocolate mousse. This was all washed down with G&Ts and necked whilst watching Pride and Prejudice on DVD.

Sunday passed quietly and involved mucking about on the computer and going to Waitrose. Not exciting, but good when you are still worn out and unaccountably tired.

Today - a day we had both booked off work - was of a different order. At sometime in the past few weeks and without my noticing, the music bug has burrowed through the soft shell that is Furtle's cranium and today it compelled us to go into town and acquire a keyboard2. That is currently still in its box in the hall. At some point, I expect to be regaled by the sounds of the Concerto Furtle as is evolves, and based upon the tutors we picked up at the same time, one with the worthy subtitle: levels 0-1, that can only be a short time in coming. If I can work out the recording of appropriate MP3s, the world too, shall suffer know of this genius. I talked myself out of buying a guitar. That didn't take much effort.

1That would be me. Do try and keep up.

2By which I mean an electric piano forte, or some such device.

Does the instrument have a headphones socket? When I am wailing the blues mightily/making embarrassingly shite clunking noises* on a Tele when the James women are sleeping or watching the goggle box, headphones are a boon, and have surely kept my marriage intacto.

By the way, e-mail follows.

*it's subjective, what can I say...

Saw the email, thanks: all is well, now! Been busy running a game all evening and am for bed shortly, but I'll email you tomorrow from t'office.

I believe there is a headphones socket, but Furtle played it quietly upstairs, no-one was disturbed and no milk curdled!

I used to own a guitar, though I couldn't be bothered to put the effort in to learn it beyond a couple of the easier chords. Technically I still do own it, but it's on long term 'loan' to [livejournal.com profile] mezzogiornouno and I have no plans to ask for its return.

There was a chap in the shop trying out electronic drums and using headphones. It sounded really off - particularly the plastic cymbals, which merely clacked...

...and it gets played nightly old boy. Still has a nice melodic tone to it, and the junior mezzo's love a sing-song at bathtime to its tender strains
