Splashing the cash

Somebody somewhere has got cash. But it ain't me by a long chalk.

Manchester United have accepted a bid of £80 million for Cristiano Ronaldo, from Real Madrid, the team he was linked to last summer. This news comes just a couple of weeks after Ronaldo told the world he wasn't going anywhere. That said, his signing on fee alone would mean never having to kick a ball again.

It really doesn't seem that long ago since Trevor Francis caused a stir by becoming Britain's first £1 million player. Hm well, it is thirty years, I suppose, but even so that's some inflation!

Thirty years ago, that's about the time My parents bought there current house.
Now I recons that house is now worth ten times that, but lets say fifteen, just to be safe. That would mean that, next to house prices (which are ridiculously high still), record football signings should be in the £15m bracket, which is what Shearer went for over ten years ago.

They didn't buy him for his ability to play football they boutght him because his name and image will shift merchandise - same reason they bought Beckham. and he loves himself so much if he was chocolate he'd eat himself
