So last night we won the quiz again, though we might have been one point more emphatic had not the word ‘antelope’ been misheard as ‘ant-eater’ (it was very noisy). The extra point we would have got would have given us 25 points and clearly ahead of another team that would have got 24 points but which had 10 deducted for cheating by using a mobile phone to get answers. In the end it didn’t matter, because despite a moment or two of grumbling, they didn’t raise any fuss and let the matter lie. The fact they were caught red-handed hardly helped their case.

So we have another £25 bar tab to drink next week. In an attempt to break our usual run of inability in picking the envelope with the jackpot, we ushered budgie_uk along to make the selection. I am happy to report that it’s not just me: he didn’t get the right one, either – which is a shame as this week’s roll-over jackpot was £300, which would have been quite welcome ahead of payday. Still, never mind; it keeps the interest up, though I fear that cheating will become rifer as the jackpot increases. Next week, depending upon the number of teams and players, it could easily be between £330 and £350. We are once again beginning to encroach into the realms of serious winnings, though we still have a way to go before it gets up to the £1,000 it was capped at a few months ago, before someone (not us) finally picked the correct envelope.
