The daily foraging expedition to find fodder was mercifully short today.

I nipped out, lit up a ciggie and dashed across the road and down the street to Boots for sarnies and then back to the office. I don't kinow where that wind originates, but by crackey, it's parky out there today, and with a sniff of moisture in the air, too.

I think the weather must be on the same control as the clocks: since daylight savings brought us back to Greenwich Mean Time last Sunday, the weather has been sliding inexhorably toward Winter.

Mind you, Autumn and Winter have much to do this year. Spring hung about for a while, got the job done and then gave way to a very enthusiastic Summer who came in early and stopped late. There's clearly a promotion push going on here - or an attempt to corner all the available overtime. It will be interesting to see how the remaining seasons react to this efficiency drive ushered in by Summer. Will we see a prompt and massive influx of snow on the first day of Winter, the very last leaf having fallen from the most reluctant tree just before midnight the day before as Autumn clears its intray?

And looking forward to March 21st, the first day of Spring. The day before barren, the last of Winter's slush melting away, will March 21st arrive with a sudden proifusion of green buds and the odd early daffodil?

More likely Winter will go down the pub, realise early in March it's done nothing and drop its entire intray on us in one go, meaning that Spring will be late because it can't get to the office through the snow drifts.
