Memes: It's all me me me me

Not as pissed as I'd like, but then midweek birthdaze are not as fun as one so hog-tied by convention would hope. The weekend Chinese with Emm, Gary, DT, Carol and David will be better.
That is not to say tonight was a wipe out. Not by a long chalk. Got pleasantly splatted, though not ratted. Won a tenner in the quiz and talked bollocks with the lads. Had we been in the Royal Oak I'd still be there (yes, it's nearly 1 am) downing Harvey's best and talking Prog with Doc. Still. Next week, perhaps.
In the meantime, I have grown contemplative and feel up to filling out the latest self revelation meme that's going round.
It's here, below, if you can be arsed to read it. Be kind: I'm feeling honest as one who is in middle age can be.
Suddenly I understand the King In the Yellow Mask stuff tho I've never read it.
1. As a child, who was your favourite superhero/heroine? Why?
The Thing from the Fantastic Four. Strong as hell but insecure. Slightly paranoid and unsure of self. I identified and still do. Freud would have a field day.
2. What was one thing you always wanted as a child but never got?
I really, honestly don't recall. There were many things I felt I needed but didn't. My parents, bless 'em were usually right about that.
3. What's the furthest from home you've been?
Standing on the banks of the Illinois River. The biggest mother f****er of a river I've ever seen. But not as big, I believe, as the Mississippi.
4. What's one thing you've always wanted to learn but haven't yet?
part of me would dearly, dearly love to be a guitarist/pianist/musician. Another part would dearly love to be a linguist. Both parts are down trodden slaves to my apathy and indolence. It's the one thing about me I would really change if I knew how.
5. What are your plans for the weekend?
Friday is a Chinese with the aforementioned dear friends. After that, I'm not so sure. I may write. I ought to.
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. [What's your nickname?]:
Currently none that I'm aware of, except my sister who calls me Beefy. At school, I was Leafy. How clever.
2. [Where do you live?]:
Currently in Clapham. But I'd dearly love to move back to the
BLUE REMEMBERED HILLS
(A.E. HOUSMAN (1859-19336))
Into my heart an air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
This is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain.
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.
Oh God, would I.
3.[Describe yourself in 7 words]:
Large, cheery, friendly, deeper than you think.
4. [Who is your worst enemy?]:
My own inhibitions and fecklessness.
5. [If you could have any animal for a pet, what would it be?]:
Our pooch, Ben. We had to put him down 5 years ago because of cancer. He was half collie half every other dog on the planet. By turns regal, majestic, playful and painfully dim. If brains was gunpowder he couldn't blow his nose, but he was faithful, loyal and an all round grand dog and I miss him dreadfully.
6. [What is the latest you've ever stayed up]:
About 48 hours. But there is a number of blanks in there which may indicate unremembered dozing. I frequently do not sleep at events and then grind to a dead halt for 6 hours.
DESCRIBE YOUR
7. [Wallet]:
Brown, leather and stuffed full of crap, but little money. Was top of the range thingy in its day. Sadly that day is no more.
8. [Brush]:
Rather pointless, don't you think? I have 2 bought me as a child in Shropshire by unknowing parents before hereditary baldness was fully understood..
9. [Toothbrush]:
A plastic minty thing that I should replace.
10. [Jewellery worn daily]:
Claddagh ring. Ironic, really. Signet ring. Both on right hand - a legal knuckle-duster for the inner city. A gold torque bracelet on right wrist supposedly helps with arthritis, probably psychosomatic (sp?) but seems to work. For the last 18 months I haven't felt the need to get the WD40 out for my left ankle, knee or hip. Silver chain necklace. Gold crucifix on gold chain. And were my fingers not so fat a half sovereign ring on my left middle finger.
11. [Pillow cover]:
Blue
12. [Blanket]:
A continental quilt, thank you. We didn't call them duvvits when I was a kid..
13. [Coffee cup]:
Here, a Dark Blue Dr Who mug. At work, I have a fabulous white one with the legend 'Drink Coffee. Do stupid things faster with more energy.' Thanks, Emm xxx
14. [Sunglasses]:
Black horn rimmed with literally rose coloured lenses.
15. [Underwear]:
Lots and all Catholic. That is truly holy..
16. [Shoes]:
By choice Chelsea Boots or cowboy boots. But they wear out so quickly on these mean streets.
17. [Handbag]:
Oh, come on...
18. [Favourite top]:
My 'Exorcist' T-shirt. With the legend, 'What an excellent day for an exorcism'
19. [Favourite pants]:
Trooz is trooz.
20. [Cologne/Perfume]:
Underarm pong stopper. I'm not fussy.
21. [CD in stereo right now]:
Well, since I started writing this I've moved on to Ziggy Stardust by that man Bowie.
22. [Tattoos]:
No. But I always wanted an 'Om' on my right arm, but fear of needles/apathy stopped me. Maybe mid life crisis is the time? Whadaya think?.
23. [Piercings]:
Never. No way, not ever, not once, not even on holiday. If I was meant to have a hole there it would have been in the design specs.
24. [Wearing]:
Troosers, black King Crimso T and a snug, fleecy sweatshirt. (And shreddies for the inquisitive).
25. [Hair]:
Would be nice.
26. [Makeup]:
Only for LRP events.
WHAT/WHO (is/are)
27. [In my head]:
A four colour world where everything is nice and friendly. Super imposed over one where I rule the world with a velvet glove encased in steel. A little 10 year old who hasn't a f****g clue what's going on.
28. [Wishing]:
I knew what I wanted and how to get it.
29. [After this]:
Dreamless kip.
30. [Talking to]:
No one.
31. [Eating]:
I did a toasted cheese sarnie before I started this. 'Twill suffice.
32. [Do you like candles]:
Yes. Lots of them but rarely deployed.
33. [Do you like incense]:
Yes. Type depends on mood, but vanilla is a fave.
34. [Fetishes]:
You know, it's so long ago I can't remember....
35. [Person you wish you could be with right now]:
A young lady, now a mother of two, who in my opinion married the wrong guy. Clearly she didn't, 10 years on. But I still light the candle frequently even if I don't carry it around so obviously any more... No names, no pack drill. But I'd be surprised if any of you know her.
36. [What/Who is next to you]:
The Invisible Woman (honestly)
37. [Do you believe in love]:
Yes. But I don't think it's reciprocal.
38. [Do you believe in soul mates]:
I really have no answer to this. I know of too many broken relationships to be convinced. And I've never met mine, pace 35, above.
39. [Do you believe in love at first sight]:
Hmm. probably not. Not real, deep, soul searing, enduring love. But I'm happy to concede the argument to any vague proof.
40. [Do you believe in Heaven]:
I would dearly love to. But I don't honestly think I do. When it's over it's over.
41. [Do you believe in forgiveness]:
Yes. But I don't practice it as much as I ought.
42. [Do you believe in God]:
I don't think so. More agnostic than atheist. Would a living God allow the world to be what it is? Trite I know but I'm no theologian.
43. [What's something that you wish people would understand]:
What you see is rarely what you get. And when it is, it's rarely what you want.
44. [What's something you wish you could understand better]:
What have you got? I am perpetually baffled. Hence 27 above.
45. [What's one thing you want to make happen for tomorrow]:
Be happy, prove there is real love and meet my soul mate. Luckily I am naturally a cheerful soul. One out of three ain't bad...
Goodnight, gentle reader.

She may not - it was a few years ago now and we're both happily with other people (well, I am and I believe she is)
