caddyman: (Not again!)
Is there anything quite like a finance presentation in a warm office to help a body catch up on much-needed sleep? I suspect not.

I have just spent an hour sitting with about 50 other drones listening to a not-very-well-presented presentation on public housing debt and how the Government finances it. A rather dry subject at the best of times, but with an ill-prepared presented and a PowerPoint presentation where the slides were inserted in seemingly random order...?

I can't say that I know any more about the specifics now than I did before I went in; I have a reasonable grasp of the generalities, but...

No matter; I'm not about to be tested on it.

Hope I didn't snore.

I can say, all things considered, that I am failing to enjoy my first day back in the office, or The Borg Collective as [livejournal.com profile] fencingsculptor would have it1.

As of now, I am coining the term, tediocrity. It should speak for itself and describes this place far better than any lengthy discussion ever could.

1Or Six of One as I shall now call him.

Well the idiot mouth breather from the West Country can make do with figures going back to 1995. I haven't found them yet, but I have spent the entire morning (less ciggie break) working out where to get the information from. It's all comparatively easy now.

I hope.

I nipped out to buy sarnies at lunchtime as usual. What with the sudden damp weather, but warm temperatures, it feels like the inside of an airing cupboard outside right now. And of course it started raining heavily, too. None of this seems to be affecting the temperature in the slightest, though the humidity is now something special. I was wrong this morning; that wasn't gill-growing weather, this is: a touch more tropical than before.

Anyone lost a monsoon? I think we have one here. It's free to the first person to arrange their own transport.

Finally, the wind down toward the Christmas break has begun; somebody has turned the heating up in the office and I am getting a little bit drowsy.

This is in rather startling contrast to yesterday when I toyed briefly with the idea of going on a machete rampage. Yesterday was the culmination of a great deal of work, some of which has been bemoaned loudly on this very forum (usually behind friends’ only screening to protect the innocent (ie. me from such joys as the sack and/or being sued for libel).

I had anticipated a busy morning, but it just got ridiculous. When, after twenty minutes, five people had come along with variations on the phrase, ”stop what you’re doing, this needs to be done immediately”, I decided that the only course of action open to me was aggressive tetchiness. This had the desired effect and I was blissfully undisturbed after that for most of the day. And the ‘immediate’ work was delegated elsewhere. The intrusion was particularly unwelcome as at least half of it was down to THAT WOMAN© and clearing her desk for the Christmas break, having held the papers un-actioned since late October.

Anyways up. It’s all done now despite the best attempts of our own email system to sabotage the process. I logged on this morning to find that our own firewall had vetoed the delivery of anything to any address beginning with ‘a’ or ‘b’. Still, it all seems to have gone at the second attempt.

I may write some Christmas cards.
