It appears to be just as well that we front-loaded this week with the few activities we had planned for our holiday. Today is rather chilly with a north wind blowing and there is rain in the air. This could, I suppose, be the beginning of the jolly holiday cold-snap that the Met are forecasting. Easter weekend, too. What a coincidence.

I have never really understood (nor much cared to) why Easter waltzes up and down the calendar and why it can't be fixed like other holidays. It has always struck me as very odd that a Christian holiday should be so dependent upon phases of the moon. Still, logic is generally found wanting in matters of superstition, so I don't propose to lose any sleep over it; I never have before.

It looks as though the train routes from Chelmsford are all being dug up and ruined over the Easter weekend, which means that the Furtle Clan may have to avail themselves of either the bus replacement service, or drive to London, which means that they would most likely come to The Athenaeum Club and we would go somewhere local for a meal and a pint or two. So: tidy the place like it's never been tidied before and hide DT in a cupboard with a bone and a bowl of water.

As Jesus was crucified the Friday after passover, I would think Easter follows that day in the Jewish calendar, whose date is similarly vague. Still, like Christmas (whose date is nicked from the old Yuletide hol) Easter's calendar date is not as important to Christians as its significance.

I think that I may just survive the en-Furtlement.

That said, if the weather continues as it is today, I wouldn't blame the clan if they stayed in Chelmsford and rearranged for another time!

If you and Elle visited them instead, you could choose how long it lasts, and make your excuses and leave if it's all a bit awkward. On the other hand, if they are anything like her, they'll be perfectly good company.
