I am on a coffee break from packing comics. I think it may extend into a belated lunch break. I have filled 6 proper collectors' boxers with comics - I don't remember reading half of them - and I have four boxes to go. The latter shouldn't be a problem since there is only one remaining stash of unboxed comicdom, but that's in a hard to get to corner and may include a mouse nest. After that, I have others, already in photocopier paper boxes. I shall empty as many of those as I have proper storage for, and use the copy paper boxes for books instead.
I have so much crap it's not true.Once these are all boxed, I guess it will be back to spending most spare time bagging and ditching before actual packing. I need to create space to actually pack in. The more I sort out, the more cluttered everything becomes, and I'm not sleeping outside, thank you very much.
romney has kindly volunteered to store stuff for me - and this process started last night. It's all stuff that is light but bulky and has a sell on value, so I'm not ditching it. I can transfer it a bit at a time after the move proper has taken place. Especially as it looks as though
romney will be in India for a couple of months, and I shall have to pay the odd visit to his flat to check it hasn't disappeared or anything.
If packing is such a distressing and time consuming process, I am half minded not to bother unpacking once I get to the other end; just stack it all neatly and throw a rug over it all.
Make a feature of it; a conversation piece:
"Ah yes, it may look like a pile of packed junk with a rug over it, but in fact it's a scale model of Killaminjaro. Just wait until I've sprinkled icing sugar on top."I have discovered a knackered old portable telly amid the piles of stuff. I thought I'd junked it years ago. If this is symptomatic, I guess we know why I have no space, don't we? It seems that I was half right; the accompanying remote is nowhere to be found. I clearly threw away the easy bit.
I think my next task will be the hardest. I have to go through my mountains of books and decide which to give to the charity shops, which to ditch entirely, and which to keep. My instinct is that column C will be much bigger than the others if I am not too careful. Happily I know someone who will take a bundle of them off me; I am quite happy for them to go to a good home. The videos and games remain a problem. Few people want German games, and fewer want secondhand videos in the age of the DVD (I Understand that
Comet don't even stock VCRs any more).
Ah well, it's gone 3.30. I need to iron a shirt for work tomorrow, then go out, get some cash and have something to eat. Packing and sorting for today is complete. It's quiz night, after all.
