Nostalgic reading
Wednesday, September 26th, 2007 01:00 amI have no idea why, but out of nowhere a book has popped into my head that I recall enjoying reading when I was what, ten years old?
Knights of the Cardboard Castle by, as it turns out from a search of Amazon, by Elizabeth Beresford, she of Wombles fame. Sadly, it is out of print, otherwise I might have been prepared to let a few quid go on it. Probably just as well.
I recall that it fired up my imagination rather marvelously. Does anyone recall the TV series from the 60s, produced I think, in Canada: The Forest Rangers. In my mind it has the same feel. I think it is the idea of a lair for kids away from adult interference that did it in both cases. Certainly it was something my friends and I aspired to at that age.
Just for a little nostalgia, I'd like to see a copy again.
