I have to confess that while during the week, attempts at eating more sensibly with a view to losing weight went more or less satisfactorily, hopping around the ring nimbly and delivering a series of well-aimed jabs at the appetite, the food intake of a lifetime showed what it means to be a heavyweight in this kind of competition and delivered a solid right hook followed by a hay maker to the apples, banana and pasta confections I have been consuming with variable relish during the week.

Yes, gentle reader, we cooked and scarfed an exceedingly lardy toad in the hole last night. A massive hole and a not insubstantial toad it was, too. Tasty but decidedly naughty. Still, points for the peas we had with it, I feel.

While the digestion was reeling from that, we -Furtle and I- hit it with a home made lasagna this evening. Very cheesy; very tasty. There may have been seconds. And garlic bread.

Tomorrow I dust myself down and climb back on the wagon, sternly chiding myself to do better.

Tonight I luxuriate in garlic and lard.
