Insomnia again

This is all suitably miserable: it's 5:15am and I have had not one jot of sleep all night.

This despite taking a couple of Natrasleep tablets. Let's hope the manufacturer at least is sleeping soundly. I wish I had something worrying my mind, then at least I could blame it on that, but I don't. My head is suitably empty bar the occasional tumbleweed.

I wonder if the muggy weather hasn't helped? Have you tried Nytol? I've had at least two people I know to have benfitted from its property of causing drowsiness, including an ex-LJ friend who was a depressive (see this entry).

I wouldn't touch Nytol myself. A cup of hot Horlicks and TV flickering in the dark usually helps me to sleep.

That's interesting - a TV would keep me awake, or rather I would fall asleep but wake up again, like I would with lights on. I haven't tried any sleeping aids for a long time, but Horlicks sounds a good start!

I have once or twice spiked the hot drink with either rum or brandy (only when desperate!)

A flickering TV would drive me bonkers!

I'm not sure why that works for me. I have the volume on low of course. And I do turn it off before I actually fall asleep.

Melatonin has been working for me lately.

A warm drink makes you drowsy - warm not hot. and the fullness it gives your tum makes your body want to sleep. That's what the experts told us anyway. Mr M puts a DVD on the tv and is sound asleep and snoring just like he does in front of the TV downstairs. He used to use a video but when it reached the end of the tape it would automatically rewind and the clunk when it stopped would wake him up so modern technology has helped for once. It does help if it is a film that you have seen several times before because then you only watch with your eyes and not your brane
