Sugar Rush
Tuesday, August 9th, 2005 04:28 pmFor our team meeting this morning, the boss brought in a box of Krispy Kreme Dough Nuts,1 which was rather good of him.
Had he thought it through however, he would have remembered that there are only three of us here at the moment, including him. So to buy a half dozen and then fall to the sucker punch of being offered a further half dozen for a single pound didn't make as much sense as he might have thought.
Krispy Kremes are an unabashed sugar delivery system, avoiding any and all of the remaining major non-carbohydrate food groups beyond that. I had one with my coffee this morning, and spent several hours unable to blink. I have had another, and more coffee. Lots more coffee and I haven't finished with coffee today, yet.
I shall be sleeping on the ceiling tonight.
1I am prepared to use the proprietary name for these things, but I refuse to compromise over the spelling of the sweetmeat itself. So there.

Date: 2005-08-09 05:44 pm (UTC)if you ever come back to illinois i would love to take you on a tour of local cuisine and of course hot glazed donuts will punctuate the experience.
btw, did you see that pic on the DWAS page from filming where it shows them outside a place called "Eddie's American Diner"?

Date: 2005-08-09 07:40 pm (UTC)There is a (smallish) chain of Ed's Diners in the UK. They specialise in making the layout, presentation and food as close as they can to US 1950s diners. Not bad. Maybe 'Eddie's American Diner' is a play on that.
One day I shall make it back to Illinois, and maybe get to see something more than just Chicago (and Starved Rock!). Then you can lead me past every feeding trough in the state!

Date: 2005-08-10 12:56 am (UTC)The only thing likely to be more fattening, would be a deep-fried and frosted sugar cube, but man, they're tasty.
And our friend Sandra is part of the marketing exercise.
