They will gather dust. Dust mites will live in them as they sit neglected on a shelf somewhere. Eventually the mite population will grow to the point at which it is capable of animating the plushes and terrorizing your living space. You won't be able to kill them just by hitting the plushes with bats - too many mites will remain. You would need to burn them, but in order to do this, you would need to tie them down so they don't run around setting things on fire - and have you ever tried to tie up a stuffed animal? Ultimately they will drive you insane (every seen Mouse Hunt? If not, don't, but if so, that's the level of interference we're talking about) and you will show up at work raving about how the penguins are stealing your sanity. You will then be taken away to the funny farm, leaving your apartment to the penguins, which is what they wanted all along.
