Lost in a logic loop
Tuesday, January 30th, 2007 04:36 pmI think it’s time for me to bang my head on the table in frustration. Let me see, yes, I’ve thought about it again and it is.
Yesterday I posted up a couple of pictures of a leather jacket I have had my eyes on for a while. What I didn’t say was that I have been emailing the company that makes them for just under three weeks now, trying to extract information one tiny piece at a time.
They are quite friendly but decidedly unforthcoming.
The difficulty is this, you see. The largest size they quote on their website id XXL and I really need an XXXL (quite apart from my famously proportioned gut, I have a large chest and will continue to do so even if I lose weight). So, from the first tentative approach, the emails have developed along these lines:

9 January: “Hi, I have just seen the Leather Jacket on your website and was wondering if you are strict at keeping to the sizes you quote: the largest for the jacket is XXL, but I see that some other replicas are up to XXXL.
If not, could you let me know the approximate chest size of a XXL, please?
Regards,
Bryan Lea
Response
10 January: “Hello, A 48 will be the same as a xxl, I hope this helps.
Cheers Gemma
Our Hero
10 January: “Thanks, Gemma. Does that mean that it would not be possible to have one made XXXL size, (presumably at a slightly higher cost!)?
Cheers, Bryan”
Response
11 January: “Dear Sir, We can make a bigger jacket for you if required
Cheers Gemma “

17 January: “Hi, Thanks for that. I was wondering if you could quote me a price for 52" jacket in black and advise on how best to order it as the web site doesn't go up to that size! Many thanks for your help.”
Our Hero
24 January: “Hello, I was wondering if you had had chance to give any thought to the email attached which I sent last week? Many thanks.”
Response
25 January: “Dear Bryan, I have spoken to Peter and we can make you a jacket for £200 plus £20 postage. Cheers Gemma”
Our Hero
30 January: “Hi Gemma, £220 including P&P is a good price for a jacket! I'd like to order one in black, please. Can you let me know what other details you need (any additional measurements etc) and how best to arrange payment, since this is not being sorted through the website. I look forward to hearing from you.”
Response
“Dear Bryan, Please send and order via our online web page with the size jacket you need. Cheers Gemma”
Our Hero: Exasperated
“Hi Gemma, Er... This is where I came in! Your website doesn't go up to the size I want and there's nowhere to write in special requests or instructions, which is why I emailed in the first place. Maybe it would be easier if I phoned in an order? Regards.”
