From the BBC News website: Children's author Eoin Colfer has been commissioned to write a sixth instalment of the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy series.

Now Adams's widow, Jane Belson, has given her approval to bring back the hapless Arthur Dent in a new book entitled And Another Thing...

A friend of mine has forwarded one of the emails of supposed kids' exam answers that crops up every few months. Some of the answers seem rather too knowing, but others hit the spot.

This one supposed history answer gets me every time and I don't care if it's real or not. It's funny:

Delegates from the original 13 states formed the Contented Congress. Thomas Jefferson, a Virgin, and Benjamin Franklin were two singers of the Declaration of Independence. Franklin discovered electricity by Rubbing two cats backward and also declared, "A horse divided against itself cannot stand." He was a naturalist for sure. Franklin died in 1790 and is still dead.

In something of a turn around, I have decided for the time being that I shall not complain too vociferously about working in Wonderland. If the overall state economy is half as bad as the media suggest (it’s probably only about a quarter as bad), then being an established civil servant of close on 25 years’ service suddenly looks like a remarkably wise career choice¹. A little bit of me wishes he could be in the unemployment offices when the suddenly redundant 'Yah, Rillies' from the City start turning up and find that they are entitled to about 50 quid a week, somewhat down from the bloated bonuses they taunted everyone else with in the good times. Schadenfreude on a stick with extra bitter, please.

Moving into the second half of September, I find that I am already into that short space of time in Autumn (there is a similar period in Spring, too) where ambient temperatures are such that I sleep soundly at night and wake up relatively rested and ready for work². We are in that short window between the Summer’s heat and the consequent inability to sleep and the Winter urge to hibernate because it’s cold and dark.

This almost calls for a song and a dance, but let’s not push it, eh?
